Your advanced riding journey starts here

Welcome to Leicester and District Advanced Motorcyclists, the official provider of the IAM RoadSmart Advanced rider training programme for the Leicestershire area.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Due to the current high demand for advanced training, we are operating a waiting list for assigning Observers to new trainees (Associates). Please expect a waiting time of several weeks between IAM processing payment and LADAM being able to assign you a trainer. Thank you for your patience.

LADAM are the leading volunteer group in Leicestershire, dedicated to providing advanced motorcycling training.

Whether new to motorcycling or you’ve got a lifetime’s worth of two-wheeled adventures under your belt, LADAM can provide the training you need to take your skills to an advanced level. We are affilated to IAM Roadsmart and apply the IAM RoadSmart principles and techniques to all our coaching activites, so if you want to become an Advanced Rider you can be sure of the best standard available.

If you sign up with IAM Roadsmart as an Associate member with LADAM, you’ll be assigned an experienced Observer, who will be tasked with guiding and coaching you through our carefully structured training programme, based around the principles outlined in Roadcraft - the highly-respected police driver and rider handbook.

Because we believe that everyone should be allowed to learn at their own pace, there is no fixed number of training session, but most of our Associates typically reach the standards we’re looking for within about six months, at which point you’ll be formally assessed by an IAM Examiner. All being well, you’ll pass with flying colours, and can proudly call yourself an Advanced Rider.

We’re committed to dramatically improve the motorcycling skills, behaviours and attitudes of all our members.

Why choose LADAM?

LADAM is a volunteer-based membership organisation entirely dedicated to advancing the standards of motorcycling in Leicestershire and the surrounding area. We are affiliated with IAM RoadSmart, and deliver the RoadSmart training programme that IAMRS have evolved and perfected. Along with similar qualifications offered by RoSPA and the British Motorcyclists Federation, the IAM RoadSmart accreditation is widely recognised as providing some of the best advanced training in the world.

Training sits at the heart of what we do, but it’s important to know that LADAM provide so much more. During the milder Spring, Summer and Autumn seasons, we organise plenty of social rides, including our fun Chip-Shop-Runs during the summer months. And in winter, when darkness and unpredictable weather challenge even the most dedicated riders, we keep the momentum going by organising monthly talks and presentations.

In expert hands

If you choose to join LADAM as an Associate member (our fancy language for a new trainee), you’ll be allocated an Observer who will guide you through the Advanced training programme. All our Observers are highly experienced motorcyclists, well versed in the IAM RoadSmart training programme and dedicated to helping you pass your advanced riding qualification.

How to get started

To develop these advanced skills, you need to enrol as an Associate on the IAM RoadSmart programme. This includes membership fees for both IAM RoadSmart and LADAM for the one year and also includes your test fee. Please go to the IAM RoadSmart website to enrol and ask to be assigned to the Leicester group, Group Number 7257.

All of our Observers are volunteers who give their time freely, but we do recommend a voluntary contribution of £15.00 per session towards your Observer’s running costs. We believe this, combined with the IAM RoadSmart fee, is exceptional value for the training you will receive.

“The training I received through LADAM has helped make me a safer, more confident rider, but just as importantly perhaps, it's also massively increased the grin-factor!”
